With good reason this is one of our most popular traditionally shaped canoes. It is stable and exhibits good balance between tracking and manoeuverablility, making it an ideal general-purpose family canoe. Originally moulded from an old cedar canvas canoe, the shape has been redefined and modified. It has however, retained the shallow arch hull, full ends and shoe keel. Although the keel helps the canoe track in a straight line, its main function is to offer protection for the hull in case of a grounding. Fiberglass

Bluewater Freedom Scout 16'6"
This is a great family canoe with modern styling and performance characteristics. Like all freedom boats, the hull has a shallow vee shape which is as close to magical as you can get - at low speeds the moderate rocker lets the boat turn well, but at higher speeds the vee keeps it tracking like an arrow. This boat is great for novice paddlers who appreciate a fine canoe. The wide 36" beam provides generous stability and the freeboard is a little higher than the 17 footer for added safety and comfort. Bluewater Freedom Tripper 17'
The narrow beam on the Freedom Tripper 17 makes it a superb canoe for the experienced tripper. Its asymmetrical hull, with the widest point 6" aft od the centre, increases the speed and makes paddling easier. A nice detail found on all Freedoms is the spray rail molded in the hull about 6 inches below the sheer near the bow. This deflects moderate waves and dampens the pitching motion in larger waves. With slightly more rocker than most modern canoes, designer Steve Killing has managed to gain back the turning ability found in traditional canoe shapes without sacrificing the speed of the modern hull. It is ideally suited for wilderness trips and is suprisingly easy for experienced solo paddling. Kevlar
