Family Pride - Common Loon It is a full time job for a pair of loons to raise a family. Egg predators include ravens, eagles, gulls and raccoons. Once hatched the chicks are vulnerable to predation by large turtles and fish. During the first two weeks the chicks often ride on their parent's back for protection and for rest and warmth.
