But it's not all about the high-performance stuff; waterskiing has always been a great recreational activity for families who just want to enjoy the water and the sunshine - and really get the pulse racing at the same time. Our basic combo skis are made of moulded plastic, some with a more durable aluminum topsheel High-perforinance slalom skis are made of carbon fiber, which is lighter and stiffer for more agility and better control.

Design |
Flex
A key factor in a ski's performance. Softer skis are more forgiving and turn gently, making them suitable for beginners. As skis get more advanced they get stiffer, making for more aggressive turns and higher performance.

Width
With regular skis there is little variation in width. Our new wide-body skis are very user-friendly. They're stable, they'll lift you up out of the water easily, and they're not too strenous to ride.

Tunnel
 
Tunnel (the longitudinal groove in the centre) affects the ski's stability and maneuverability. Skis with a narrower tunnel and a flat area on either side are more forgiving because they put more flat surface in contact with the water. Most slalom skis have are concave from edge to edge, allowing for more power in your turns. Conical tunnel is a hybrid version that widens to a full tunnel, for a best-of-both-worlds combination of stability and intensity.

Bindings
Most of our skis come with bindings included. Better quality bindings are made from thicker neoprene rubber, making them stiffer and more supportive. Competitive slalom skis have bindings with straps and fasteners for an even more secure hold.

Advanced features
Our top-end skis come with the latest design features to boost your performance. Mid-fins reduce slide in tight turns, allowing you to get lower without losing traction. The Piezo vibration damper on O'Brien skis reduces chatter on choppy water by converting vibrations into electrical energy.

What to look for..
Size
The appropriate length is determined by the slder's weight and by speed. Bigger people need longer skis, but the length will decrease at higher speeds. Check manufacturers' sizing charts and consult with our staff to find a length that's right for you.

Level
Generally, the price of the ski indicates its level of performance. Wide-body skis are great for beginner or intermediate skiers. Our staff can help you choose the ideal ski for the level you're at or the level you want to get to.

For kids
We carry skis designed especially to minimize hassles for kids who are leaming to ski - and for their parents! Ski tips are attached for beginners, so the skier doesn't have to worry about keeping them together. A special rope system helps to keep the tips up and allows a
spotter in the boat to let go if the skier runs into trouble. These 'training wheel' features can be removed as little skiers advance.

We stock ski vests cut to avoid compromising mobility, and to take the impact of falls. We also carry adjustable length ski ropes, bathing suits and shorts. Check our magazine section for skiing-related titles.
Ask about our rental program; it's a great way to try a ski before you buy it. The cost of a rental will be deducted from a subsequent purchase, except on marked-down items.
